These are common holidays recognized throughout the country. Other holidays are recognized in individual regions and thus referred to as regional holidays. When a public holiday occurs on Saturdays, the previous day automatically becomes a holiday. A holiday that falls on Sundays is pushed to the coming Monday. Different from public holidays, the state holidays are strictly for the public sector and the government officials. Some of the organizations might choose or deny giving their employees a day off during these Federal holidays.

Different organizations also embrace these holidays and take up the holiday theme. Some holidays can be a day long while others can go for a week.

Most businesses close down during major holidays. On certain federal holidays, the streets are full of people and traffic comes to a standstill as the celebrations begin. Different holidays call for different response and observations. During these federal holidays, retails stores capitalize significantly on sales of different costumes and merchandises.
